The Global Resources Innovation Expo (GRX25) is highlighting some of the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies designed for the mining and resources sector at its Accenture Innovation Zone inside this year’s event.
The Accenture Innovation Zone is located on the main floor of the exhibition hall, where the latest mining equipment, technology, and services (METS) startups, entrepreneurs, and research institutions gather to showcase innovation.
Austmine CEO Christine Gibbs Stewart says this zone shows how the mining industry is evolving to embrace modern technologies across AI, quantum, and augmented reality devices.
“We are an industry at the cutting-edge and it is exciting that our METS sector is pioneering the solutions of tomorrow. We have a highly innovative community which must be fostered and grown, and GRX is a dynamic new platform for growing the next generation of mining tech,” Gibbs Stewart says.
Innovators on display include Loop Hydrometallurgy’s Halion Loop, which offers low–cost and low-emission alternative to extracting copper using saltwater-based chemistry; Jevons Robotics’ battery-electric robots, which allows sites to remove personnel from high-risk blast areas; Theia Simulation, which creates real-time tools for fleet decarbonisation; and Nomad Atomics’ compact quantum sensors, which provides gravity data for exploration and underground cave monitoring.
AI technologies found in this section illustrate how mining operations continue to adopt this technology to enhance efficiency, improve workplace health and safety, ensure environmental sustainability, and advance exploration.
AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin says the zone demonstrates the industry’s progressive approaches to complex challenges.
“This is a dynamic platform for entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life, and connect with key-decision makers who understand the immense value these innovations will bring to our sector,” Durkin says.
Programs like NatureIQ offer AI-driven environmental intelligence from a software as a service (SaaS) platform. Invented by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), this program enables mining companies to assess biodiversity risks, simulate land-use impacts, and support nature-positive outcomes.
The expo incorporated learning technologies in the innovation zone to encourage education amongst individuals and businesses alike. Edumine Answers by Elementa has loaded up AI systems with content from more than 110 peer-reviewed courses.
This trend has carried across the entire event, as AI continues to evolve in the mining sector. Resource Super Executive General Manager Nic Clark says there was an influx of AI technologies representing businesses and stalls at this year’s expo.
“AI is absolutely everywhere and everything. Just over the last few years, how we’ve moved into that digital transformation…there’s a real changing face in the mining landscape,” Clark says.
GRX25 was on from 20-22 May 2025 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
