Green Technology Metals (ASX:GT1) has received formal notification confirming completion of the environmental assessment (EA) process for its Seymour Lithium Project in northwestern Ontario, Canada.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) issued a statement of completion for the permit to remove forest resources. GT1 says this ‘major’ milestone allows government agencies to issue development permits across the applied project area.
The company submitted its project description in November 2022 and received a Category B classification from the ministry in September 2023.
According to GT1, this designation reflects potential low to medium environmental impacts, which aligns with Seymour’s processing model that uses gravity-based separation and no chemicals to produce concentrate.
Managing Director Cameron Henry says the EA completion is ‘extremely pleasing’, noting that it highlights the ‘low-risk’ profile of the development.
“The project is a simple small- to medium-sized operation that is extremely environmentally friendly given that we simply extract the raw minerals, sort and wash them, and then use gravity to separate the unwanted material from the spodumene we are concentrating,” Henry says.
“Although larger in scale, the process and operation are not too dissimilar from a quarrying operation that is used for sourcing of road base materials and uses techniques and processing that are well known in the industry.
“The receipt of the EA is another milestone completion on our pathway to permitting the Seymour mine and highlights the ongoing work progressed by our team throughout the lithium market downturn and continuing into this next cycle for the commodity we’re currently in.”

The company notes that the EA process required public and Indigenous groups that would potentially be impacted by the project to review the project description and provide feedback or concerns.
With the EA process completed, GT1 is now preparing its remaining permit applications alongside ongoing consultations with Indigenous partners, with plans to file its mine closure plan (MCP) in Q4 2026.
Once filed, the MCP and the completed EA will enable the approval of operational permits. These include the permit to remove timber, air and sewage environmental compliance approvals, water infrastructure approvals under the Lakes and Rivers Improvement Act (Ont), location approvals, plans and specifications approvals, and water taking permits.
GT1 holds a global mineral resource estimate of 30.4 million tonnes (Mt) @ 1.17% lithium oxide (Li2O) across its Ontario assets, including 10.3Mt @ 1.07% Li2O at Seymour. The project area benefits from access to existing infrastructure, including hydropower generation, roads, and regional rail networks.

Green Technology Metals is a North America-focused lithium explorer and developer, with 100%-owned projects in Ontario that contain hard-rock spodumene assets: Seymour, Root, Junior, and Wisa.
Just last month (August 2026), GT1 announced it had been accepted into the US Defense Industrial Base Consortium (DIBC), positioning the company within North American defence and critical minerals supply chains.
The positioning also complements the company’s continued engagement across Canadian federal and provincial government initiatives supporting critical minerals development, infrastructure, and downstream processing.
