A contractor died on 29 May at Endeavour Mining’s (LSE:EDV) Lafigué Mine in Côte d’Ivoire, following a heavy equipment incident occurring during water drainage activities.
Relevant authorities have been informed, and Endeavour Mining is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The company is seeking to understand the root causes.
Contractor activities have temporarily paused, while processing operations continue uninterrupted.
The Lafigué Mine is the fifth project Endeavour has built in West Africa in the past decade. It employs more than 1,840 people as of November 2024 and is expected to run for 12.8 years.
Endeavour Mining aims to produce more than 200,000 ounces of gold per year at Lafigué, at an all-in sustaining cost of US$900 ($1,250) per ounce for at least 13 years.
This news comes amid a mine shaft collapsing in the Yunnan province of China on 31 May, resulting in five deaths and another person injured.
On 22 May, a gas explosion occurred at the Liushenyu Coal Mine, leaving 82 dead and 128 in hospital, as previously reported.
