Equinox Gold (TSX:EQX) is targeting annual gold production of about 2 million ounces (Moz) within three to five years through development projects and mine expansions.
President and incoming CEO Jason Simpson outlined the target at the Mining Forum Americas on 28 September.
“We need to build well so that we can grow that production platform from 1–2Moz,” Simpson says.
The 2Moz figure is a longer-term target rather than current production guidance. Equinox expects to produce 870,000–920,000 ounces during 2026, reflecting only five months of output from assets acquired through its July merger with Orla Mining.
On a full-year pro forma basis, the combined operations are forecast to produce about 1.1Moz during 2026.
Equinox says its development pipeline could add more than 800,000 ounces annually through Valentine Phase 2 in Canada, South Railroad and Castle Mountain in the US, and expansions at Camino Rojo and Los Filos in Mexico.
Construction has begun at South Railroad in Nevada, with first production targeted for 2028. The company says it intends to construct and ramp up one operation at a time before proceeding to the next project.
Simpson says the pace of growth will depend on the gold price, operating cash flow, construction costs, permitting, and Equinox’s ability to fund development while reducing debt and returning capital to shareholders.
Equinox Gold is a Canadian gold producer with operations and development projects in Canada, the US, Mexico, and Nicaragua.
