Canuc discovers new gold zone beside historical pit

Canuc Resources (TSX-V:CDA) has identified a new near-surface gold mineralised zone next to the historically mined East-West Pit at its East Sudbury Project (ESP) in Ontario, Canada.

The new target, called Zone Two, comprises a north-dipping mineralised chlorite breccia immediately adjacent to the East-West Pit.

The pit forms part of the past-producing Scadding gold mine, where Canuc is exploring for iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG)-style mineralisation.

170m strike length

Canuc says it has drilled 10 holes into Zone Two to date, with all holes intersecting the targeted chlorite breccia over interpreted true thicknesses ranging from 3–15m.

According to the company, the mineralisation is similar in appearance to that exposed in the East-West Pit and has been traced over a strike length of approximately 170m.

Canuc’s geologists interpret the intersections across the 10 holes as evidence of a coherent, laterally continuous mineralised structure.

“The most significant finding from this work is that the newly identified gold zone appears to be continuous over a considerable strike extent, representing a greater dimension than previously identified for structures at the Scadding gold mine,”  CEO Christopher Berlet says.

Berlet also points out that Zone Two remained undetected for decades despite extensive historical drilling around the former mine workings dating back to the mid-1970s.

According to Canuc, this zone is interpreted to represent the down-dip projection of mineralisation identified by Gulf Minerals in 1973, which contributed to historical gold resource estimates for the East-West Pit.

The findings provide “support for our thesis that the project area is host to significant unrecognised potential,” Berlet says.

Inclusion for maiden resource

Canuc plans to continue drilling Zone Two for as long as the mineralised structure can be traced, with the aim of incorporating the new zone into a maiden mineral resource estimate for ESP.

Meanwhile, the company is continuing exploration across ESP to assess the extent of mineralisation around the former Scadding Gold Mine and surrounding targets.

Canuc Resources is a junior resource company developing its wholly owned East Sudbury Project, which spans 20,078 hectares and sits about 20km northeast of the Sudbury mining camp.
