American Tungsten (CSE:TUNG) has expanded its mining operations team, strengthening leadership for the ongoing US tungsten demand with the appointment of David Sabourin and Liam Farrell.
Sabourin will act as the Vice President of Mining Operations, leading development and production strategy at the IMA Mine in Idaho ahead of ramp-up efforts, and Farrell as the Vice President of Operations, who will oversee business development plans.
With more than 40 years of global experience in business and management, Sabourin has served as a mining executive and engineer in previous roles, including his current position as a technical advisor for American Tungsten.
Responsibilities throughout his career have included managing capital construction projects and engineering across Feasibility Studies and project development.
He holds a Bachelor of Mining Engineering from Michigan University, as well as an MBA from Strathclyde University in Scotland.
Meanwhile, Farrell will garner his experience as an operator across the advanced material space to guide operation plans and meet the company’s strategic goals on its path to commercial production.
Previous roles include senior positions across a range of Canadian financial institutions as a CFA Charterholder.
Farrell holds a Bachelor of Communications from Queens University in Ontario, Canada.
CEO Ali Haji says filling these roles with Sabourin and Farrell’s expertise marks a “pivotal” step forward for the company.
“With a fully funded program and an experienced team, our focus is squarely on revitalising core infrastructure to unlock expansion potential and look to commence future production,” Haji says.
“Their expertise strengthens our commitment to becoming a leader in the supply of tungsten, a critical metal in North America, and the company’s ongoing vision of operational excellence.”
In February 2025, China added the commodity to its export restriction list regardless of its prominence on the global output.
China held around 52% of tungsten reserves in 2024 with 2.3 million tonnes of the global 4.4 million tonnes, as recorded in the US Geological Survey.
American Tungsten is focused on developing its tungsten and magnetite projects spanning North America.
