American Tungsten advances IMA Mine restart studies

American Tungsten (TSX-V:TUNG) has begun metallurgical testing and geotechnical studies at its IMA Mine Project in Idaho, US, as it advances plans to restart the past-producing tungsten operation.

The metallurgical program, led by Bomenco Minerals Engineering and SGS Laboratories, will evaluate recovery methods for tungsten from the project.

Meanwhile, NewFields MTDs is undertaking geotechnical studies to support the design of tailings and waste rock storage facilities.

The company says the work will provide key technical information for future engineering, environmental, and mine development studies.

The IMA Mine — located on 22 patented claims in east-central Idaho — operated between 1945 and 1957, producing about 199,449 metric ton units of tungsten oxide. The project was later explored by several operators between 1960 and 2010.

American Tungsten is also conducting an exploration drilling program as it assesses the potential to restart underground mining.

“The metallurgical and geotechnical programs represent important milestones in advancing the restart of the IMA Mine,” CEO Ali Haji says.

“Together, these programs are intended to reduce technical risk and support the company’s phased strategy of processing existing surface tailings before ultimately restarting underground operations.”

American Tungsten is a Canadian-based exploration and development company focused on advancing the IMA Mine Project.
