Zeotech advances on-site landfill methane control trials

Zeotech (ASX:ZEO) will begin an on-site validation trial for its methane emissions control solution at the North Burnett Regional Council (NBRC) landfill.

Trials are expected to begin in February 2026, with three phases to be conducted over seven months. The key three phases include ZeoteCH4 preparation, baseline on-site methane measurements, and technology testing and data collection.

This trial is part of Zeotech’s path to commercialisation for its Methane Control Program which focuses on greenhouse gas mitigation for landfills and the development of a zeolite-based biofilter to adsorb and eliminate methane emissions.

The trial is being operated in collaboration with Griffith University School of Environment and Science, and will use the ZeoteCH4biofilter which has previously demonstrated a consistent decrease in methane emissions by more than 90% relative to the controls.

Performance of the solution will be evaluated over a six month period using real-world conditions.

Chief Executive Officer James Marsh says that the trial is a “pivotal milestone” for the company as they progress from simulated environments to the real world.

“The program will demonstrate the practical application of our ZeoteCH4technology and its potential to deliver a cost-effective solution for landfill methane mitigation, addressing a critical challenge in achieving Australia’s emissions reduction targets.”

Griffith University’s Dr Chris Pratt also notes that “our earlier work demonstrated high methane elimination efficiencies in controlled environments, and this program provides the opportunity to confirm those results at an operational scale.”
