Yari uplifts Rolleston South’s coal resource

Yari Minerals (ASX:YAR) has increased the inferred coal resource to 190 million tonnes by 26% at the Rolleston South Coal Project in Queensland.

Rolleston South’s previous inferred resource contained 151 million tonnes,  representing a 91% increase from the previous figure of 78.9 million tonnes.

The uplifted resource following an analysis of drilling from three coal seam gas wells sourced through a data sharing agreement. The geological modelled area was also expanded, which improved coal seam thickness and extended the cut-off depth, enabling coal resource expansion.

Managing Director Anthony Italiano says the updated resource has leveraged the company’s free data sharing agreement.

“The uplift reinforces the potential of the high-quality asset, ahead of the inaugural drilling campaign which should progress once test-drill targets are finalised and all regulatory approvals secured,” Italiano says.

Yari intends to conduct further exploration to expand the resource beyond the current 190 million tonnes. Development planning is also underway to capitalise on the project’s open-cut and underground potential.

As such, site visits will take place shortly to finalise drill targets for an inaugural drilling program.

The Rolleston South Coal Project, spanning 272km2, is located in the Bowen Basin, Queensland. The Bowen Basin contains the largest coal reserve in Australia and extends for more than 60,000km2 of Central Queensland.

In 2025, the Department of Natural Resources and Mines reported that the Bowen Basin contains 42 operational coal mines which extracted over 150 million tonnes of coal per year. This represents a significant contribution to Queensland’s coal production – the state’s most important export commodity.

Yari Minerals is a coal-focused mining company which aims to build a significant resource in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
