A worker has died after being hit by a truck at the United Wambo Joint Venture Open Cut mine, more than 20km west of Singleton, New South Wales.
Shortly after 1:00pm, emergency services were called to the site where they found a man, believed to be in his 50s. Emergency crews were unable to revive him.
The man has not yet been formally identified.
The mine is part of a joint venture between Glencore (LSE:GLEN) and Peabody Energy (NYSE:BTU).
CEO of Glencore’s coal business in Australia Peter Sharpe gave condolences to the worker’s family, friends, and colleagues, in a statement to the media.
“This is tragic news for our entire workforce. Our immediate focus is on providing support to the worker’s family and our employees.”
The United Wambo Joint Venture Open Cut mine commenced operation in 2020, producing thermal and semi-soft metallurgical coal for export.
