VRX Silica gains Arrowsmith mining approval

VRX Silica (ASX:VRX) has received approval for a mining proposal and closure plan for its Arrowsmith North Silica Sand Project in Western Australia.

The approval is a milestone for VRX as it allows for mining operations to begin, subject to standard mining and closure conditions including environmental approval.

Managing Director Bruce Maluish says receiving approval for the development of Arrowsmith is another milestone.

“We await formal notification from the Minister for the Environment regarding our proposal for environmental approval for Arrowsmith North,” Maluish says.

Arrowsmith North has the potential to support a new, long-term industry in Western Australia’s Midwest region and delivers benefits including long-term direct and indirect employment and royalties.

VRX Silica, which has a market capitalisation of $65 million, says this approval follows confirmation in late June 2025 that the Minister for the Environment determined the Environmental Protection Authority of Western Australia’s assessment of Arrowsmith North was adequate.

As such, further assessment is not required, clearing the pathway for environmental approval.

The Arrowsmith North Project, located 270km north of Perth, contains a silica sand deposit underpinning a long-life mining project that will enable long-term production for the foundry, container glass, and flat-glass markets in Asia.
