Tempest Minerals (ASX:TEM) has begun field activities at its Mt Magnet Range Project in Western Australia, including rock chip sampling and detailed mapping to refine targets ahead of drill testing.
New geological mapping and field verification of historical mapping has uncovered five priority exploration targets for reverse circulation drill testing, as well as geochemical sampling.
The targets – Rubicon, Wrangler, Defender, Evoke, and Cruiser – lie along a nearly 7km strike length in several different geological settings.
Tempest has engaged geological consultants to conduct structural and stratigraphic re-interpretation of the geology of the Range Project. The company expects to review rock chip sample assays shortly.
Once received, mineralogical and alteration studies on legacy drill chip grab samples will be carried out, as well as geochemical sampling of the southwestern target area.
Further detailed geological and structural mapping, alteration mapping, and data compilation will be conducted, ahead of an upcoming drilling program.
Rubicon is a western porphyry target adjacent to ultramafic schists with potential for high-grade contact-style gold mineralisation.
The Wrangler prospect has potential continuation of mineralised banded iron formation and felsic porphyry from the historical Britannia Well mine onto Tempest tenure, with 1 grams per tonne golf in quartz-tourmaline veining rock chips 170m along strike of the open pit.
Defender is considered a scrapings target that warrants drill testing to evaluate the porphyry and granite contact. Evoke is an extensive 19km granite contact that displays signs of prospecting and localised shearing.
Meanwhile, Cruiser lies in the southern area that has poorly exposed greenstone sequences under shallow cover. Soil sampling will be undertaken to assess potential gold mineralisation along ultramafic-basalt contacts.
The Mt Magnet region is a multi-million-ounce gold mining centre with numerous large-scale, long-life open pit and underground mines currently in operation. The region hosts major resources companies such as Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS) and Westgold Resources (ASX:WGX).
