This week’s Talent Tuesday starts off with big news from Northern Star Resources (ASX:NST) announcing that Managing Director Stuart Tonkin is stepping down from his role in Q1 of FY27.
Tonkin will remain as Managing Director until he steps down, overseeing the finalisation of the company’s current strategic plan and the commissioning of the KCGM Fimiston Mill Expansion.
Tonkin has served the company for 13 years as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Managing Director, growing the company from a small-cap Western Australian miner into Australia’s largest ASX-listed gold producer.
The board has noted that it has commenced the formal process to find a new Managing Director, with candidates being sourced through a leading global search firm.
Lion Rock refreshes leadership for rutile growth
Lion Rock Minerals (ASX:LRM) has refreshed its board and management team, bringing significant rutile mining experience to the company as it accelerates growth at the Minta Rutile and Monazite Project in Cameroon.
The company has announced the appointment of Theuns de Bruyn, former Managing Director and CEO of Sierra Rutile Holdings (ASX:SRX), as the company’s new CEO. He brings more than 30 years of experience in Africa’s mineral sector, focusing on project development, feasibility, financing, and operations.
Duncan Craib has been appointed as Non-Executive Chair, with David Brophy appointed as Non-Executive Director. Craib has more than 25 years of resource sector experience, most recently serving as Managing Director and CEO of Boss Energy (ASX:BOE), helping transform the company into an ASX 200 uranium producer.
Brophy also brings significant experience in Africa’s resource sector, with a focus on commodity supply chains, risk management, derivative hedging, and client-focused distribution.
Grant Scott has also been appointed Chief Operating Officer, previously serving as Technical Services Manager at Sierra Rutile Holdings.
The incoming board and management are to cornerstone a $2 million capital raise for Lion Rock at $0.02 per share.
