Sunshine appoints new CFO and director

Sunshine Metals (ASX:SHN) announces the appointment of Philip Crutchfield as non-executive director and Tyson Balanzategui as chief financial officer, effective tomorrow (1 October).

Crutchfield, a commercial law barrister and director of Dreadnought Resources (ASX:DRE), Hamelin Gold (ASX:HMG), and Encounter Resources (ASX:ENR), is currently the company’s fifth-largest shareholder. He will assume the role of non-executive chairman following the annual general meeting (AGM) in November 2026.

Meanwhile, incoming CFO Balanzategui brings extensive finance experience, having served as finance director of Chaarat Gold Holdings and held roles with Alufer Mining and Sun Metals (TSX-V:SUNM). The Townsville-based executive joins as Sunshine advances towards production in 2027.

Current Non-Executive Chairman Alec Pismiris will also step down at the AGM after playing a central role in recapitalising and repositioning the company. Sunshine notes that Pismiris remains a substantial shareholder.

Managing Director Damien Keys says Pismiris has played a ‘pivotal’ role in the company’s growth, particularly in its recapitalisation and repositioning. During his tenure, Sunshine transitioned from a junior explorer with greenfield targets to a developer with a market capitalisation of approximately $140 million and a pathway to production.

“On behalf of the board, I thank Alec for his advice, guidance, and contribution to the company, and wish him all the best for the future,” Keys says.

“We are delighted to welcome Philip to the board and Tyson to the management team.

“The period of overlap between Alec and Philip will support an orderly transition of board leadership.

“Philip’s and Tyson’s experience will be valuable as we advance towards production in 2027.”

The company has outlined key milestones ahead, including Sybil drilling results in October, participation in the Australian Gold Conference on 13–15 October, and the commencement of Mt Moss construction between October and November.

Sunshine also plans to commence the Liontown Mining Study during the same period.

Sunshine Metals is an Australian mineral explorer and developer transitioning towards near-term gold and polymetallic production.
