Sun Silver primed for maiden drilling at Maverick Springs, Nevada

With permits in hand and a tender process underway, recently listed Sun Silver (ASX:SS1) is almost set to begin a maiden drilling program at its flagship Maverick Springs Silver-Gold Project in Nevada.

A plan of operations had already been approved by the state’s Bureau of Land Management (BLM), providing a clear pathway to the commencement of drilling once the tender process has been completed and the final drilling targets determined.

Drilling is expected to initially focus on the high-grade northern sections of the project, and Sun Silver has engaged three local contractors — all based out of Elko, all with experience drilling on Nevada’s Carlin Trend. This was a key metric in Sun Silver’s shortlisting of preferred contractors, as was availability and cost.

In preparation for drilling, the Maverick Springs Project was visited on several occasions by Sun Silver’s Exploration Geologist, Robert Anderson, to assess the conditions, infrastructure, and drilling requirements. Access to the project has been maintained by the BLM, and ground truthing has been completed for planned pad locations.

Executive Director Gerard O’Donovan says the Maverick Springs Project has an “exceptional” foundation and a “globally significant” resource, which Sun Silver intends to build on.

“Utilising existing active drilling approvals from the BLM and focusing on using local, experienced and readily available contractors who are only located 85km from site has been a key focus for Sun Silver to expedite the drilling process,” O’Donovan says.

“Having Robert visit site on a number of occasions and report back on the quality of access and infrastructure confirms that we are in a great position to start our drilling campaign.”

Located 85km south-east of Elko, the Maverick Springs Project was purchased by Sun Silver from privately held Element75 Entities in August 2023 under an option agreement. To date, some 200 holes totalling roughly 60,000m have been completed at the project, notably within just 20% of the overall property.

In 2022, Element75 published an inferred resource estimate for Maverick Springs measuring 292 million ounces of contained silver equivalent at an average grade of 72.4 grams per tonne, making it “one of the most significant silver resources on the ASX,” according to Sun Silver.
