Sun Silver (ASX:SS1) reports extensive antimony mineralisation 60m above its current mineral resource estimate at the Maverick Silver Project in Nevada, US.
Hole MV0004 returned 89m @ 70 grams per tonne silver equivalent (AgEq) from 126.5m, including 38.3m @ 100g/t AgEq from 134m and a ‘high-grade’ interval of 0.8m @ 1,296g/t AgEq from 134m.
The hole also intercepted cumulative antimony (Sb) mineralisation exceeding 100m, with two broad intervals of 43.7m @ 0.06% Sb from 70.6m and 64.7m at 0.06% Sb from 134m.
The antimony mineralisation begins approximately 60m above the current MRE and extends through substantial portions of the mineralised sequence. This demonstrates potential for antimony to extend beyond the boundaries of the currently defined silver-gold resource.
Managing Director Andrew Dornan says the results reinforce the scale and continuity of the current resource while highlighting the emerging antimony potential.
“MV0004 is another strong result from Maverick Silver, returning almost 90 metres of continuous silver-gold mineralisation and reinforcing the scale and continuity of the current Resource,” Dornan adds.
“Importantly, the hole also intersected extensive antimony mineralisation commencing approximately 60 metres above the current MRE and extending across more than 100 metres of cumulative intervals.”
The antimony grades are comparable to those reported for Perpetua Resources’ (NASDAQ:PPTA) Stibnite Gold Project in Idaho, US, which averages approximately 0.06–0.07% antimony across its mineral resources and reserves.
Sun Silver considers the antimony results particularly significant given the strategic importance of the metal to the US.
Antimony has applications across defence, energy storage, electronics, and industrial industries, while the country remains heavily dependent on imported supply.
The Maverick Silver Project hosts a JORC inferred mineral resource of 237 million tonnes grading 45.5g/t silver and 0.30g/t gold for 347.2 million ounces of contained silver and 2.25 million ounces of contained gold.
