Southern Cross Gold recruits second drill rig to expand capacity at at Sunday Creek

Southern Cross Gold (ASX: SXG) reports that it has increased drilling capacity at its 100%-owned Sunday Creek Project in Victoria with the addition of an extra drill rig.

The second rig is expected to be mobilised to the project before month’s end, and will focus on the recently-completed SDDSC033 drill hole which returned 119.2m @ 3.2g/t Au and 0.4% Sb (3.9g/t AuEq) from 106.8m.

The company also aims to extend and infill mineralisation around the Apollo to Golden Dyke strike zone, which extends over 1km.

Commenting on the news, Southern Cross Gold Managing Director Michael Hudson said: “While drilling has been progressing well with results pending from multiple holes, the project deserves additional capacity and we are thrilled to source an additional rig to mobilise to site before months end. Since October 2020, more than 9,000m of drilling has been undertaken at Sunday Creek. During this period, the project has consistently delivered wide and high-grade mineralisation.

“the project deserves additional capacity and we are thrilled to source an additional rig to mobilise to site before months end”

Our last hole reported, SDDSC033, which returned 119.2m @ 3.2g/t Au and 0.4% Sb (3.9g/t AuEq) from 106.8m, was the 13th >100g/t AuEq * m intercept at the project with some of the best holes being big step outs at depth. We look forward [to] increasing the drill capacity at the project as we work towards a maiden resource and releasing further drill results as they come available.”

Southern Cross also notes that assays from a further four drill holes (SDDSC034 – 37), that were drilled pre-listing, will be released over the coming weeks with a fifth drill hole (SDDSC038) currently targeting the area around ‘spectacular’ drill hole SDDSC033.

In addition, the company reports that current geochemical understanding, historic production statistics and geologically analogous mining operations deliver reasonable potential that both gold and antimony included in the gold equivalent calculation can be recovered at the project.

The Sunday Creek Gold Project is located approximately 60km north of Melbourne within a total land area of 16,900 hectares of both granted exploration licences and one granted retention licence.

The project boasts a 10km mineralised trend that extends beyond the current drill area and is defined by historic workings and soil sampling where exploration drilling has never been conducted, offerring potential future upside.

Southern Cross gold reports that it will move forward with releasing assays from four recently-conducted drill holes in the coming weeks while it awaits mobilisation of the second rig.
