Signature Resources (TSX-V:SGU) sees an opportunity to engage with the Red Sucker Lake Anisininew Nation and Sachigo Lake Anisininew Nation, following a statement on the company conducting exploration activities without consent.
The Lingman Lake Gold Project, located in northwest Ontario, sits within the two sister Anisininew Nations traditional territories.
On 3 March, the Nations stated Signature Resources refused to negotiate a standard exploration agreement and issued a formal joint statement to the Premier of Ontario, the Minister of Energy and Mines, and the Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation. The joint statement places the province on notice of its unified position and expectations for Nation-to-Nation engagement.
The Nations have retained legal counsel and are actively assessing all available remedies, including regulatory challenges, judicial review and public disclosure.
Signature Resources says it has made numerous documented overtures over the years to meet and advance discussion on these points regarding consent and mutual benefit.
On 26 February 2026, the company received a copy of a joint statement regarding mineral exploration activities, crown regulatory actions and the constitutional obligations of the crown, that Signature was not afforded the opportunity to discuss with the Nations.
“We continue to seek and would welcome an invitation into each community to discuss these matters and to present ourselves and Signature’s plan to the members of the Nations,” the company says.
CEO Dan Denbow says the company seeks to set out a process for dialogue and mutual benefit, along with environmental, cultural and spiritual protection in the area.
“I am optimistic that we will have a meeting soon to move forward in a mutually respectful way,” Denbow says.
“We strongly believe it is important to operate collaboratively when exploring on these traditional territories of the two sister Anisininew Nations.”
Signature Resources will be completing the current winter exploration activities in early May 2026 at the Lingman Lake Project.
The Lingman Lake Project sits in the Lingman Lake Greenstone Belt consisting of a complexly folded assemblage of mafic metavolcanics, felsic metavolcanics and metasedimentary rocks.
