Australian exploration company Red Mountain Mining (ASX:RMX) has staked and logged its application for 102 lode claims contiguous to its Mustang Lithium Project in Nevada in the US.
The company says the additional 102 claims, which cover an area of 853 hectares, are prospective for claystone hosted lithium. They are interpreted to feature similar host rocks, hydrological settings, and lithium enrichment mechanisms as the TLC Project held by American Lithium (CVE:LI), and the Clayton Valley Project held by Cypress Development Corp (CVE:CYP).
Red Mountain also notes the additional staking initiative further expands the company’s footprint in southwestern Nevada, and will bring Mustang to a total land area of 1,069.7 hectares across 140 lode claims.
The company says this region is considered the ‘premier’ region for lithium claystone exploration and development with a defined mineral resource of over 24 million tonnes of lithium carbon equivalent (LCE).
Red Mountain has started preliminary exploration activities at Mustang, and is aiming to conduct additional geological mapping and surface sampling within the Mustang and Lithic properties.

The company is planning a reverse circulation (RC) drilling program which will likely consist of wide-spaced drilling of about 10 holes to a depth of 70m. It anticipates this drilling program will provide information on the lithium mineralisation to vector further drilling.
Red Mountain Mining is an Australian exploration company operating a portfolio of projects across Australia, the US, and the Philippines. The primary exploration focus for the company in 2023 will be on the Lithic and Mustang Lithium projects in Nevada, US.
Other projects held by Red Mountain include the Mt Maitland Gold, Koonenberry Gold, and Mt Mansbridge Heavy Rare Earths projects in Western Australia, as well as the Batangas Gold Project in the Philippines.
