Red Mountain Mining (ASX:RMX) has begun preliminary fieldwork following the completion of the initial field investigation of EL 33346 at the Charlotte Lithium Project in the Northern Territory.
The company reports that field mapping delineated several out-cropping to sub-cropping occurrences of pegmatite. Additionally, the pegmatites were generally confined to the ridges within the tenement and trended north-northwest (NNW).
A strike length of 30m was mapped on outcrop 5, while other outcrops were seen to trail off down slope from ridges and were covered by colluvial scree.
Red Mountain reports the interpretation of the outcrops defined 2 to 3 pegmatite trends currently mapped within the tenement, with the possibility of further occurrences in the unexplored eastern half of the tenement.
The mineralogy of the outcrops is dominated by coarse crystalline quartz with minor to moderate accessory minerals. The accessory minerals are seen as micas, tourmaline, and possibly minor spodumene.
Additionally, at outcrop 4 a series of thin discrete quartz veins were mapped. The company reports many of the rock chips samples displayed remnant sulphide mineralisation.
These samples have been taken to be submitted for potential gold mineralisation.
Red Mountain states that while several trends were defined during the field mapping and sampling campaign, some of the tenement remains unexplored. A follow-up program over the entire tenement is expected to occur during the dry season at the beginning of May.
Additionally, surface sampling and geological mapping are restarting at the company’s Lithic and Mustang Lithium Projects. This latest geological mapping, assay results, and interpretation work enables the company to develop its exploration drilling program.
The Charlotte Lithium Project is located less than 100km by road from Darwin in the Northern Territory. The project is also located within the Bynoe Pegmatite Field.
All prospects within the mapped area occur in the western third of the tenement. All areas remain prospective for exploration and will be further investigated.
Red Mountain Mining’s primary focus for 2023 is on lithium exploration in Nevada at its Lithic and Mustang Lithium Projects.
The company’s portfolio consists of the Lithic Lithium and Mustang Lithium projects in Nevada, US, the Mt Maitland Gold, and Mt Mansbridge Heavy Rare Earths projects in Western Australia, as well as the Koonenberry Gold Project in New South Wales.
