Pilbara Minerals (ASX:PLS) has awarded a $64 million contract to NRW Holdings (ASX:NWH) for works on the next phase of the Pilgangoora P680 Expansion Project, located 120km south of Port Hedland, Western Australia.
The structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation construction contract was awarded to NRW’s subsidiary Primero Group through Pilbara Minerals’ own subsidiary Pilgangoora Operations.
The contract is scheduled for completion in Q3 2024 with the works to start immediately.
NRW says the contract award follows a formal early contractor involvement (ECI) phase to determine construction methodology, cost, and schedule. Under the contract, Primero is responsible for the construction of the crushing and ore sorting facilities.
Primero will also assist with providing commissioning, integration, and shutdown support.
NRW Managing Director Jules Pemberton says the award continues to build on the long association between Pilbara Minerals and Primero that began with the design and construction of the original Pilgan Plant.
The Pilgangoora ore body is one of the largest hard-rock lithium deposits in the world and is considered strategically important within the global lithium supply chain. The operation consists of 2 processing plants – the Pilgan Plant, which produces spodumene and tantalite concentrates, and the Ngungaju Plant, which produces a spodumene concentrate.
