Perenti JV locks in billion-dollar AngloGold contract

An underground mining joint venture between Perenti (ASX:PRN) subsidiary Barminco and Ausdrill has landed a $1.02 billion contract in Africa with AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE:AU).

African Underground Mining Services (AUMS) has signed a new five-year contract for the delivery of underground mining services at the Obuasi Gold Mine in Ghana.

AUMS has been providing underground services to the mine since 2019 alongside Rocksure International via the Underground Mining Alliance.

The AUMS partnership between Barminco and Ausdrill has been in place since 2007.

Perenti President of Contract Mining Gabrielle Iwanow says the relationship with AngloGold Ashanti is an important one for the division.

“As one of the world’s largest gold miners, we are proud to work alongside them in a collaborative manner,” Iwanow says.

Obuasi, which runs to a depth of 1.5km, has a reserve of 6.75 million ounces and produced 221,000 ounces of gold in 2024.

Founded in 1987, Perenti is a mining services company offering surface and underground mining across 12 countries.
