Peak Minerals confirms copper mineralisation in intrusions at Green Rocks

Peak Minerals (ASX: PUA) has extended the target area at its Green Rocks Prospect in Western Australia after encountering copper mineralisation during recent rock chip sampling.

The program, comprised of 183 rock chip samples across the Rixon and Rinaldi prospects, saw copper mineralisation returned from 49 specimens in the form of malachite, azurite and pyrite. The company notes that both areas are to-date untested by drilling.

Additional mapping work has shown that the prospective intrusion measures 5.3km by 1.5km, and hosts the Rixon, Rinaldi, Lady Alma, Copper Hills and The Horn prospects.

The geochemistry and geophysics are helping to confirm that there are multiple intrusions within the larger LAIC…Our enthusiasm is growing as we learn more about these prospects”

Addressing the results, Peak Minerals CEO Jennifer Neild said: “These findings are significant; we are getting that much closer to understanding this system. The initial readings from the Vanta XRF have been very promising and we’re expecting the assay results to tell the same story. The geochemistry and geophysics are helping to confirm that there are multiple intrusions within the larger LAIC. Rixon appears to be central to the main heat source which created the system. The large number of rock chip samples with visible copper supports this. Our enthusiasm is growing as we learn more about these prospects.”

Peak Minerals reports that data from the rock chip program along with recent drilling will be used to assist in determining prospective intrusions based on their geochemical structure.

Green Rocks is situated over the Lady Alma Intrusive Complex (LAIC), which is known to host copper, nickel, platinum group elements, vanadium, titanium, magnetite and gold. Geologists have interpreted LAIC-related intrusions along 22km of strike at Green Rocks, and believe that potential at these intrusions have yet to be fully tested.

Moving forward, the company is continuing work along a number of avenues including ongoing lithostructural and geochemical interpretation of Green Rocks along with rock chip sampling and mapping. This is set to be followed by an airborne EM program and a Phase 2 drill program to confirm geochemistry of intrusive targets.
