Melbourne-based mining and infrastructure solutions provider Orica (ASX:ORI) in 2025 will release new product lines and partner with customers to better integrate digital solution technologies into its blasting offerings.
At the 2024 MINExpo in Las Vegas on 24-26 September 2024, the $8.6 billion market capitalisation company will launch new products that signal the next phase of innovation in its electronic blasting systems (EBS) range.
These products are designed to enhance safety, operational productivity, and sustainability outcomes — key areas of focus for the mining industry.
The company’s upcoming developments in EBS are designed not only to meet the current demands of the industry but also anticipate and accelerate trends that will shape the future of mining.
Vice President of Initiation Systems Rodney Williams says Orica’s legacy of innovation spans across the entire mining value chain but it is the company’s forward-looking vision that sets it apart from peers.
With a focus on safety, productivity, and sustainability, Orica is driving advancements in digital solutions, blasting technologies, and specialty mining chemicals, says Williams.

Next stage in innovation
Orica’s journey in EBS began with the launch of the first i-kon in 2000, a system recognised for its simplicity and reliability. Over the years, Orica has expanded on this foundation launching uni tronic, eDev, and WebGen, the world’s first fully wireless initiating system.
Reflecting on Orica’s approach, Williams states it is all about intimate understanding of the needs of customers and the broader industry.
“We closely monitor emerging market trends and ensure that our solutions not only address current challenges but are also adaptable to future customer needs,” he adds.
“This approach has been the cornerstone for our success in new technology introduction and has enabled Orica to lead the industry through the release of flagship technologies.”
At the 2024 MINExpo, Orica will announce a new range of products including i-kon III Steel, which is engineered for durability, featuring a robust stainless-steel detonator shell that improves strength and performance in demanding mining conditions.
“With i-kon III Steel, we’re addressing the need for more resilient products that can withstand the harsh environments in which our customers operate. A safer operating environment for our customers together with reduced downtime and improved productivity is always at the forefront of our commitment to excellence,” explains Williams.
i-kon III Digital is Orica’s new flagship offering for the i-kon product line and will provide the platform for customers to access a wide array of Orica’s digital technologies in everyday blasting operations.
The Neo range — including i-kon III Neo, eDev, II Neo, and uni tronic 600 Neo — is Orica’s response to the growing demand for sustainable solutions.
Building upon Orica’s launch of lead-free non-electric detonator technology in 2023, this lead-free alternative provides the same proven performance and results as the current electronic blasting system range.
The Neo range will be released into the European market in early 2025.
As the mining industry faces increasing pressure to improve safety, efficiency, and environmental performance, Orica’s upcoming product launches seeks to align with these trends. The company’s innovations are designed to meet the evolving needs of the industry while also setting new standards for what is possible in blasting technology.
