Mt Monger Resources returns ‘high-grade’ rock chip samples from East Laverton Project, WA

ASX-listed exploration company Mt Monger Resources (ASX:MTM) reports it has received ‘high-grade’ results following a rock chip sampling campaign at its East Laverton Project in Western Australia (WA).  

The results, generated by 24 rock chip samples taken across areas of limited outcrop northwest of and around the Seahorse prospect, confirm the presence of highly anomalous metal values within possible gossans. 

Rock sample ELRK024 returned grades of up to 1.10% nickel (Ni), 1.57% cobalt (Co) and 337ppm copper (Cu), which is coincident with a magnetic high within a 2.5km x 2.5km Ni-Cu-Co surface geochemical anomaly defined by the company’s recent mobile metal ion (MMI) soil sampling program.

Addressing the results, Mt Monger Exploration Manager, Antony Zebisch says: “These are highly ‘significant’ results, possibly suggesting the presence of a new nickel sulphide deposit. We have previously identified a large magnetic high that is coincident with a MMI geochemical nickel, copper, cobalt and gold anomaly. This new gossanous float rock comes from directly over the central region of that anomaly.

We also have identified two other gossans that appear to be hosted on similar regional structures. One of these seems to be associated pillow basalts, potentially representing an active volcanic centre and a prime environment for all sorts of mineralisation to occur. 

What also makes me excited about the area is that the MMI sampling that was undertaken has the potential to see through the transported cover, which is extensive. The geochemical anomaly may therefore represent a large polymetallic mineralised area. I’m very excited to get our inaugural drilling program on this target underway.” 

The company also notes that that these results provide further confirmation that the East Laverton area contains inliers of deformed greenstone rocks that potentially host further Ni, Cu, Co, and Au mineralisation. 

In addition, other rock chip samples that were collected from previously unrecognised gossanous outcrops have also returned anomalous Ni, Cu, and Co values. 

Mt Monger Resources is an ASX-listed exploration company that is currently searching for Au, Ni, lithium (Li2O), rare earth elements (REEs) and base metals within WA’s Goldfields and Ravensthorpe districts. The company’s East Laverton project is located in WA’s East Laverton region and comprises 12 exploration licences that cover a total land area of about 3,000km-square. Due to ‘extensive’ transported cover, the project has had limited historical exploration, despite it being surrounded by existing and emerging world class Au camps. 

With the rock sampling campaign at the project now complete, Mt Monger Resources announces that heritage clearances are currently being arranged to allow drilling evaluation of the target areas defined by the recent geochemical sampling. 

Drilling is expected to commence early next year.
