Morella Corporation conducts deep ground penetrating radar program to identify pegmatites at Mt Edon, WA

Morella Corporation (ASX:1MC) reports it has completed deep ground penetrating radar (DGPR) work to identify pegmatites at the Mt Edon and Mt Edon West exploration tenements in Western Australia.

The company says Ultramag Geophysics carried out the testwork in October at the 2 tenements located near Paynes Find, and it consisted of 23-line km covering 4 areas of known pegmatites.

Results from this testwork have demonstrated the DGPR was not only able to identify the known pegmatites, but also pinpoint a ‘significant’ number of additional pegmatites not previously mapped.

Morella Corporation Managing Director James Brown said: “This work demonstrates that this area has significantly more potential targets than first understood which is very encouraging, and we can now leverage those results to determine our follow-up drilling program.

Mt Edon, along with our Pilbara exploration targets, form an integral part of our hard rock portfolio and complement our brine portfolio in Nevada.”

The company reports the focus of the DGRP work was aimed at identifying sub-surface pegmatites and their relationship to those that had been previously mapped at surface, and Ultramag spent 6 days traversing the 4 pegmatite zones identified from surface mapping.

A ‘significant’ number of new pegmatites were identified in addition the known, mapped pegmatites across many of the survey lines, and the base of weathering or unconsolidated alluvium is a pronounced layer and occurs around a depth of 20m on most profiles, and the shape of this interface is useful in determining rock type in this hard rock environment.

Existing surface mapping completed by Blackfynn identified 53 outcropping pegmatites and the DGRP work has identified a further 130 pegmatites with most not expressing at surface.

Morella says the DGRP work has identified 4 main target areas for further exploration, and these targets are based on the density of pegmatite occurrences from the DGRP survey and the previously completed mapping work. The next stages of exploration at Mt Edon will be based around these identified target areas in preparing for testing via a planned drill program.
