Metro Mining (ASX:MMI) has increased waste stripping volumes by 140% year-on-year at the Bauxite Hills Mine in Far North Queensland after investing in additional equipment and productivity improvements.
During July, the offshore floating terminal Ikamba was taken offline to replace four large hydraulic cylinders on Crane One. The Ikamba returned to service on 27 July and resumed full-capacity operations on 30 July.
Geared vessels were used during the outage to minimise the impact on shipping operations.
The shipment guidance for 2026 is between 6.6–7.1 million wet metric tonnes (WMT).
This news comes after Metro Mining achieved a record Q2, with a 7% increase in bauxite shipments compared to the same period last year. Around 1.8 million WMT of bauxite was shipped during the quarter, alongside 779,000 WMT in June alone.
The Bauxite Hills Mine is a single operating mine located 95km north of Weipa in western Cape York. The mine covers 825km2 and has an estimated reserve of 77.7 million tonnes and a total resource of 114.4 million tonnes.
Metro Mining is an Australian miner and explorer based in Brisbane, Queensland.
