Metro Mining (ASX:MMI) has achieved a record Q2, with a 7% increase compared to the same period last year in bauxite shipments from the Bauxite Hills Mine in North Queensland.
The company shipped 1.8 million wet metric tonnes of bauxite during Q2 2026, as well as 779,000 wet metric tonnes in June alone, representing a 29% increase from May 2026.
Metro Mining says a record Q2 is a “pleasing result” considering recovery from Tropical Cyclone Narelle and recommissioning of the Offshore Floating Terminal (OFT) Ikamba post dry-dock.
In addition, the first three weeks of June this year saw a marked reduction in supply chain variability from Metro Mining’s new integrated planning and operating system. The final week of June was also impacted by downtime on OFT Ikamba’s crane 1, caused by debris material contaminating the hydraulic cylinder system. The system is scheduled for repair in this month’s planned maintenance shutdown.
To date, 1.9 million wet metric tonnes have been shipped this year.
Metro Mining notes its shipping rates for Q3 will continue to increase as the company transitions into more favourable loading conditions with improved tidal windows and lower product moistures.
Further, 745,000 bank cubic metres of waste was stripped in Q2, which represents a 160% increase from the same period in 2025.
The company says productivity improvements and transition to 24-hour operations on stripping activities has improved the stripping outcomes.
Metric Mining’s bauxite shipment guidance for 2026 ranges between 6.6 to 7.1 million wet metric tonnes.
The Bauxite Hills Mine is a single operating mine located 95km north of Weipa in Western Cape York. The mine covers 825km2 and has an estimated reserve of 77.7 million tonnes and a total resource of 114.4 million tonnes.
Metro Mining is an Australian miner and explorer based in Brisbane, Queensland.
