Lord Resources rules the land with the start of RC drilling at Horse Rocks Lithium Project in WA 

Lord Resources (ASX:LRD) has begun a first pass reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at its Horse Rocks Lithium Project in Western Australia. 

The company says the program will comprise about 5,000m of RC drilling and has been designed to test 5 ‘high-priority’ geochemical anomalies revealed by surface auger sampling, which are indicative of lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatite systems.

Drilling will also focus on testing the potential of lithium mineralisation within the project, as well as determine the orientation of the mapped pegmatites.

Lord Resources reports this drilling represents the first lithium targeted subsurface exploration within the project.    

Addressing the start of drilling, Lord Resources Managing Director Barnaby Egerton-Warburton says: “The company is extremely excited to test our recently defined geochemical anomalies.

This drilling will be the first subsurface assessment for lithium mineralisation at the Horse Rocks Project and with over 5,000m of drilling planned over the five highest priority targets we will fully exploit the potential of the project.”  

The company also notes peak values from surface auger sampling include up to 1,456 parts per million (ppm) (0.15%) lithium oxide (Li2O), 91ppm tantalum pentoxide (Ta2O5), and 349ppm caesium oxide (Cs2O). 

In addition, drilling comes following the acceleration of exploration activities at Horse Rocks, as announced by the company in December 2022. 

Exploration was accelerated due to the discovery of multiple pegmatite swarms in all areas of geochemical anomalism, and the return of 84 rock samples from a completed mapping program. 

With drilling now underway at Horse Rocks, Lord Resources announces all heritage and environmental surveys have been completed. 

Lord Resources is an ASX-listed mineral exploration company with exposure to the green metals boom in Western Australia’s metal heartland. The company’s Horse Rocks project is located 20km south of the township of Coolgardie in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields and comprises a 23.8km-square exploration licence about 8km west of Mineral Resources’ (ASX:MIN) Mt Marion Lithium Mine, which currently holds a Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) of 51.4 million tonnes (Mt) @ 1.45% Li2O. 

The project is considered prospective for pegmatite hosted lithium, nickel, sulphide, and orogenic gold mineralisation, with historical drilling uncovering elevated nickel within the ultramafic sequences, and gold anomalism within surface mapping. 

Other assets included within Lord’s exploration portfolio include the Cambridge, Gabyon, Jarama, and Viper projects which are all located in Western Australia.
