Lindian Resources (ASX:LIN) has continued with construction at the Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi, announcing the mobilisation of the Komatsu owner-operator mining fleet.
Early site work has already been completed and construction activity is ongoing across several areas with initial fleet units having arrived on site for inspection. Once approved, they will be commissioned to support Lindian’s owner-operator mining approach as the company transitions into construction and bringing the project towards mining readiness.
The remaining fleet deliveries are scheduled through Q1 2026, with the company progressing with inspection, assembly, commissioning, and operator training throughout this time.
Lindian updates that its processing plant is also advancing, with its design and construction partner, Obsideo, progressing its engineering, construction planning, and site integration plans following the completion of early works and site establishment.
Executive Director Zac Komur says that the pace of work “on site at Kangankunde continues to build across all work fronts, with solid progress across civil preparation, power, camp facilities, and key support infrastructure”.
“The first Komatsu fleet deliveries are an important step in establishing our owner-operator mining capability, with commissioning and operator training progressing in parallel to support operational readiness,” Komur says.
“In parallel, we are advancing the critical enablers, including workshops, fuel infrastructure, perimeter security, and explosives facilities to strengthen operating readiness and reduce execution risk.”
As on-site activity ramps up, the company notes that they have surpassed 100,000 work hours lost time injury (LTI)-free, reflecting Lindian’s focus on safety.
Camp construction and other activities are also advancing, with power delivery installation, accommodation for execution teams, and more.
Lindian Resources is developing rare earth elements and bauxite assets in Malawi and Guinea.
