Critical metals explorer Leeuwin Metals (ASX:LM1) has proposed a maiden diamond drilling program to begin this quarter within the W56 target area at the William Lake Nickel Project in Manitoba, Canada.
The company states that the results of a recently completed Fixed-loop Electromagnetic (FLEM) survey helped to vector the proposed drilling, which will test extensions to the known mineralised envelope, along with adding further definition to interpreted ‘high-grade’ nickel shoots within the 2km strike already defined at W56.
Leeuwin reports the FLEM survey highlighted more than 550m of untested strike in a ‘large-scale’ fold setting along strike from ‘high-grade’ nickel intercepts at W56, including hole WL96-166 with 12.7m @ 1.86% Ni from 550m; and hole WL96-165 with 6.4m @ 2.85% Ni from 382.6m
The company says drilling is aimed to provide a platform for the utilisation of Down Hole Electromagentic (DHEM) surveys, which will direct further drilling towards potential massive sulphide bodies.
Additionally, the planned drilling will bolster further geological and geophysical constrains ahead of future resource definition drilling.

Leeuwin’s plans to start diamond drilling comes forth after early extensive exploration programs have paved the way for ‘high-impact’ drilling, returning ‘significant’ platinum group elements (PGE) assays from selected holes across several targets, alongside the FLEM survey identifying a ‘high-priority’ electromagnetic conductor at W22 target area.
The W22 target area is in the southern part of the William Lake mineralised trend, a 12km trend of magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE mineralisation related to ultramafic intrusive bodies.
The William Lake Nickel Project is located in the southern section of the Thompson Nickel belt of Manitoba, Canada. The project’s tenure consists of 1 mineral exploration licence and 55 granted mining claims, covering an area of 523.2km-square, which is wholly owned by Leeuwin.
