Kingwest Resources (ASX: KWR) has reported early aircore drilling results from the Sir Laurence discovery within its Goongarrie Gold Project, with ‘significant’ mineralisation 800m south and along strike from discovery Line 5 indicating potential for a ‘large’ mineralised system.
The results come from 29 holes reported out of 80 drilled along three aircore lines, with key intercepts from Line A including 28m @ 1.9 g/t Au from 20m in KGA0627 (16m in bedrock) and 8m @ 2.2 g/t Au from 12m in KGA0626.
Further results from Lines B and C include 16m @ 0.18 g/t Au from 60m (alluvial) over 7m @ 0.16 g/t Au from 76m (bedrock) in KGA0632 plus 4m @ 0.60 g/t Au from 80m in KGA0639 and 4m @ 0.19 g/t Au from 64m in KGA0642.
The company notes that both bedrock and alluvial gold mineralisation were encountered along Lines A, B and C.
“These excellent results including 28m @ 1.9 g/t Au from 20m in follow up drilling at Sir Laurence, are very significant in that they are 800m south of, and along strike of, the discovery Line 5”
Addressing the update, Kingwest Resources CEO Ed Turner said: “These excellent results including 28m @ 1.9 g/t Au from 20m in follow up drilling at Sir Laurence, are very significant in that they are 800m south of, and along strike of, the discovery Line 5 but mineralisation is at a much shallower depth and includes bedrock mineralisation. Significant bedrock mineralisation has also been intersected on Lines B and C. This reinforces our interpretation of Sir Laurence as having the potential to be a large mineralised system. Line A is the first line of drilling within the current program, and we eagerly anticipate results from all of the remaining drill holes within the Sir Laurence Prospect.”
The company reports that it has also resampled mineralised core from the first round of aircore drilling to better understand the material hosting gold within paleochannel sediments. Resampled vein quartz gravel from Line 5 returned 31.0 g/t Au and 5.4g/t Au from 86m, within an earlier-reported composite assay of 3m @ 6.5 g/t Au from 86m.
A total of 6,064m has been drilled to date in the current program, with 13 additional aircore holes planned at Sir Laurence to the north of Line 1.
The Goongarrie Project is described by Kingwest as ‘highly prospective’ due to its 18km section of alluvium-covered gold-mineralised Victorious Basalt/Black Flag beds contact, which remains virtually unexplored. The contact, which 75km south at Kalgoorlie hosts 80Moz gold, includes Bardoc Gold’s (ASX: BDC) 1.7Moz Aphrodite gold deposit, 7km south of the Kingwest leases.
Moving forward, an additional 2,000m of aircore drilling outside of Sir Laurence is set to be joined by 1,000m of diamond drilling before the end of November, tasked with determining three-dimensional controls of the primary mineralisation.
