Javelin poised to drill gold-copper targets at Coogee

Javelin Minerals (ASX:JAV) is commencing a 1,800m diamond drilling program targeting two ‘major’ intrusive gold-copper targets at its Coogee Gold Project in Western Australia from early September.

The company has contracted Westralian Diamond Drilling to deliver a diamond rig to site late this month (August) for the six-week program.

Both holes at Coogee North and Coogee West will be co-funded through Western Australian Government Exploration Incentive Scheme grants.

The two-hole program will test large, untested geophysical anomalies located beneath existing shallow drilling.

Sitting on a granted mining lease 55km southeast of Kalgoorlie, the Coogee Project holds a mineral resource estimate of 3.6 million tonnes (Mt) @ 1.08 grams per tonne (g/t) gold (Au) for 127,000 ounces of Au and 1Mt @ 0.41% copper (Cu) for 4,122 tonnes Cu.

General Manager of Resources and Exploration Mark Cossom says the company is ‘excited’ to undertake the ‘ambitious’ program.

“While conceptual in nature, these targets are of a size that could represent a significant mineralised system at depth. No previous drilling has ever been undertaken to test these anomalies,” Cossom says.

“The geophysical response present correlates with the mineralogy we have seen in the near-surface alteration system at Coogee North and suggests the presence of deep intrusions at both Coogee North and Coogee West.”

At Coogee North, a single deep diamond drillhole of approximately 800m depth will test a magnetic anomaly directly below the existing gold-copper resource. Recent reverse circulation drilling intersected ‘high-grade’ zones including 5m @ 14.22g/t Au from 143m and 4m @ 1.91% Cu from 144m, as well as 7m @ 6.42g/t Au and 2.54% Cu from 108m.

Meanwhile, at Coogee West, a single deep diamond drillhole will test an interpreted intrusive body approximately 1,000m below surface. The target features a 900m by 500m bedrock gold anomaly, with historic shallow aircore drilling returning up to 1.38g/t Au in bottom-of-hole sampling.

The project was previously mined by Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS) in 2013–14, producing 147,400 tonnes @ 4.77g/t Au for 20,400 ounces of Au.

Javelin Minerals is an explorer and developer focused on gold, copper, and nickel projects in WA.
