Krakatoa Resources (ASX:KTA) reports multiple zones of ‘significant’ antimony and gold mineralisation from its initial 2026 drilling program at the Zopkhito Antimony-Gold Project in Georgia.
The first batch of assays from four surface diamond drill holes and 10 underground core samples confirms continuity of mineralisation.
Results from the program include 1.8m @ 11.09 grams per tonne gold (Au) and 3.56% antimony (Sb) from hole DDZOP26001. Peak individual samples returned 17.1g/t Au and 15.3% Sb.
Krakatoa notes all four initial surface diamond drill holes intersected ‘high-grade’ gold and antimony mineralisation in vein six. Results include 2.83m @ 3.26g/t Au and 5.72% Sb from 43.99m, including 1.59m @ 5g/t Au and 0.61m @ 15.3% Sb.
The company also reports ‘strong’ results from the first 10 underground samples.
CEO Mark Major says these initial results continue to demonstrate the scale and ‘high-grade’ mineralisation of Zopkhito.
“Following on from last year, where we tested the system, this year, we are extending our drilling focus targeting areas within the geological model that extend the footprint of the historical resource model,” Major explains.
The 2026 exploration program aims to convert the current Zopkhito foreign resource estimate of 225,000 tonnes @ 11.6% Sb and 7.1 million tonnes @ 3.7g/t into a JORC 2012-compliant mineral resource estimate.
According to Major, surface drilling has ‘successfully intersected’ mineralised veins in targeted areas, supporting modelled mineralisation trends established using historical Soviet-era exploration data.
“There is clearly a major antimony and gold mineral system here. The identification of such mineralisation at vein 50, which sits outside the foreign estimate, highlights the potential for a broader mineralised system beyond the historically defined areas,” he says.
The Zopkhito Project sits 170km from Kutaisi, Georgia, where rail infrastructure links to western ports on the Black Sea.
Krakatoa says it has two more core batches at the laboratory, with additional samples on the way. Meanwhile, surface diamond drilling and underground coring remain ongoing, with assay results to be reported when received.
A geological reconnaissance team has also been commissioned to investigate other localised prospects within the licence boundary in coming months. The team will focus on the Sagebi antimony and tungsten area southeast of Zopkhito and the Devrushi copper zone southwest.
Krakatoa has likewise commenced metallurgical sample collection to initiate optimisation test work and studies in October as part of its broader development strategy.
Concurrently, environmental baseline studies and permitting activities are continuing to support project advancement.
Krakatoa Resources is an explorer and developer focused on critical minerals, precious metals, and electrical energy resources, with its flagship asset the Zopkhito Antimony-Gold Project in eastern Europe and a portfolio of specialty metals and rare earth projects across Western Australia.
