Harmony Australasia has launched the Eva Copper Jobs Hub to provide North West Queensland locals with a dedicated platform to access employment opportunities on the Eva Copper Mine Project.
The jobs hub brings together current and upcoming roles and workforce pathways in one central location. Harmony is delivering the project with key partners including Thiess, Bechtel and ESS. Some jobs will be hired through Harmony and others will be employed through the partners.
Chief Development Officer Johannes Van Heerden says the jobs hub marks an “important” step in connecting the local workforce with opportunities as Eva moves into production.
Eva, which has a 15-year mine life, is expected to generate around 1,000 construction jobs and up to 450 steady operations. Construction is expected to take up to 30 months, with first production targeted in H2 2028.
“We will be recruiting locally wherever possible, and it’s important for local communities to be part of the project,” Van Heerden says.
“The jobs hub has been designed to ensure people living in Cloncurry, Mount Isa and the surrounding region have early visibility on opportunities in a central platform and can prepare for recruitment activity, reducing the need for jobseekers to search across multiple company websites.”
By 2027-28, the Queensland mining sector is projected that there will be 72,958 directly employed workers, as well as an additional 548 people from 2023-24, according to Jobs Queensland.
At the same time, the four largest mining groups will be coal with 29,149 employees, metal ore (17,308), other mining support services (12,053) and exploration (5,888).
Harmony intends to continue engaging with the community through ongoing consultation and future community information sessions.
The Eva Copper Mine Project is projected to be the fourth largest copper mine in Australia and inject up to $17 billion into Queensland’s economy through construction and operations.
