Galileo Mining (ASX:GAL) has commenced a 5,000m aircore drilling program, targeting platinum group metals at its Norseman Project in Western Australia.
The program focuses on follow-up drilling at the Mission Sill prospect, where recent shallow sulphide intercepts returned 8m @ 0.42 grams per tonne platinum group metals three element (PGM 3E) from 24m.
These results include 2m @ 0.88g/t 3E and 17m at 0.36g/t PGM 3E from 84m, including 5m at 0.61g/t 3E.
“The sulphides intersected to date appear to be related to a geological feature that strikes for over 10km, and we think the chances of new mineral discoveries at this location [are] significant,” Underwood says.
The Mission Sill prospect presents potential for large discoveries with multiple anomalous drilling intercepts and over 10km of strike.
Regional exploration and resource growth
Galileo will also undertake first pass aircore drilling at the southern end of the Callisto South prospect during the current drill campaign.
Follow-up drilling is required along strike at Callisto North and Callisto South prospects to determine the metal content of sills at those locations.
The Norseman Project has proven its prospectivity, as evidenced by the 2022 discovery of the 17.5 million tonne Callisto resource, with a current 1.27 million ounce palladium-equivalent JORC resource.
“We believe the potential for new resources within our Norseman tenure is high and that … this mineral belt could be far greater than our current 1.2 million–ounce palladium–equivalent resource,” Underwood says.
Located 10km from Norseman, Western Australia, the Norseman Project comprises mining, exploration, and prospecting licences covering 255km2.
Callisto was discovered in 2022 and represents the first deposit of its type identified in Australia, with similar mineralisation styles to the Platreef deposits in South Africa.
Aircore drilling is scheduled to take three weeks to complete, with the company aiming to drive new palladium and platinum discoveries that will add to the current JORC resource through the drilling program.
