Fireweed lines up drill rigs for major Yukon critical minerals hunt

Canadian critical minerals explorer Fireweed Metals (TSX-V:FWZ) is undertaking a major regional exploration campaign at the 977km2 Macpass Zinc-Lead-Silver Project in Yukon.

Four rigs will be spinning to cover 14,000m of drilling aimed at better understanding the “district-level potential” and advancing new targets to a drill‑ready state.

The program will comprise 8,000m of step out holes at the Tom, Jason, and Boundary prospects that will primarily focus on targets that may form extensions of these zones.

The remaining 6,000m will be allocated to testing new targets.

Interim CEO Peter Hemstead says it is the largest regional exploration program ever undertaken at Macpass.

“Comprising over 6,000 metres of drilling at greenfield targets, as well as comprehensive ground and airborne geophysical and geochemical surveys, this regional work will aim to unlock over 40 kilometres of an underexplored prospective trend at Macpass,” he says.

The regional exploration program will focus on new sediment-hosted zinc, lead, and silver targets, as well as a number of targets with the geological potential for reduced intrusion related gold systems.

Adam Lundin, a strategic advisor to Fireweed, says previous drilling at Tom, Jason and Boundary demonstrated the “very large mineral endowment and future growth potential” at Macpass.

“However, we have only just scratched the surface in testing the true scale of this district in the making,” he says.

“This summer’s exploration program is focused on growing the district’s mineralised footprint through drilling many of the compelling greenfield targets for new discoveries, as well as step-out targets at Tom, Jason and Boundary.”

The first rig is expected to start drilling on 7 June, with all four rigs slated to be operational by late June.

Fireweed says Macpass is one of the world’s largest undeveloped zinc projects, hosting multiple zinc-lead-silver deposits.
