Joint venture partners Sumitomo Corporation (TYO:8053) and the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security have approved a Feasibility Study for Tivan’s (ASX:TVN) Speewah Fluorite Project, 100km south of Wyndham Port in Western Australia.
The project involves developing the nation’s first fluorite mining and processing operation that produces acid grade fluorspar in WA’s Kimberley region for global export.
First commercial production is expected to begin in mid-2028 and last until the end of 2038. At peak construction the project will employ about 300 workers, plus a further 125–150 operational staff members.
Project partners will next focus on a second tranche $5 million equity investment in the joint venture company. Proceeds will be used to progress the Definitive Feasibility Study through to a final investment decision.
Tivan has formed a strategic partnership with ETFS Capital, which has also approved the Feasibility Study.
“We are pleased to have achieved the Feasibility Study milestone and look forward to continued progress this year, in support of the important bilateral relationship in critical minerals between Australia and Japan,” Tivan Executive Chairman Grant Wilson says.
Tivan is a diversified critical minerals company with assets mostly in the Northern Territory, Western Australia, and East Timor.
