‘Cautious confidence’ returned to explorers in June quarter: BDO Australia

Over the June 2025 quarter, advisory services BDO Australia has reported explorers listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) to have seen financing inflows increase by 20% to a total of $1.93 billion.

The firm describes the market turnaround as the first quarter to shed light on explorers after a four-quarter downtrend in its latest quarterly cash update for explorers.

Speaking to Mining.com.au, BDO Global Natural Resources & Energy Leader Sherif Andrawes describes the March quarter as particularly bad for explorers.

“This was the first one after the change of administration in the US, the first one where there was quite a lot more uncertainty in the world,” Andrawes says to Mining.com.au.

“It was almost like the market took a bit of a pause.

“I think June sees a recovery from that very low base, and it sees a continuing strength of gold.”

At the beginning of Q3, natural resource investor Rick Rule predicted a gold bull market in a wide ranging interview with Mining.com.au, expecting other commodities to follow shortly thereafter.

Gold has continued to flourish on the market, reaching record levels yesterday morning (16 September) at around 11.12am AEST, valued at US$3,680 ($5,510) per ounce after the previous all time high was marked at US$3,640 on 11 September, as reported by Mining.com.au.

With major gold projects headlining the resources sector, BDO Global reports net investing cash outflows to have dropped 20% to $438 million over the quarter.

The Natural Resources & Energy Leader predicts that along with the gold focus, explorers in the copper field will see similar growth.

Compared to the previous quarter noting 26 explorers, the quarter saw 42 explorers raising more than $10 million cash for operations.

“Typically, the June and December quarter are the ones where the companies raise the most money,” Andrawes explains to this news service.

“We’re going to see IPOs come back to be a steady flow in the second half of this year than there was in the first half of the year.”
