Buxton identifies Broken Hill-style silver target at Zanthus

Buxton Resources (ASX:BUX) is commencing a ground electromagnetic survey at its Zanthus Iron Project in Fraser Range, Western Australia, following the identification of a Broken Hill/Cannington-style silver-lead-zinc target at its Cohen prospect.

The company regained full ownership of the Zanthus Project after IGO (ASX:IGO) withdrew from their joint venture (JV) on 30 June 2025.

Historical pulps within select holes were re-analysed using an improved geochemical method with follow-up X-ray diffraction analysis.

The best result came from hole ZRC025, which returned 2.0m @ 7.5 grams per tonne silver, 1,405 parts per million (ppm) lead, and 4,230 ppm zinc from 220–222m.

The mineralisation sits within a broader 8m zone and remains open at depth.

Multiple independent lines of evidence point to a Broken Hill-style mineral system, including the metal association, indicator minerals spessartine and gahnite, and a manganese-rich iron formation marker horizon directly above the mineralisation.

Managing Director Marty Moloney says the company initiated an internal review of the historic data across the Zanthus tenement following IGO’s withdrawal from the Fraser Range JV.

“This work identified an anomalous silver-lead-zinc intercept sitting directly beneath the Cohen magnetite mineralisation,” Moloney says.

“By undertaking a detailed geological review, including re-assaying historic pulps, we are now confident that a Broken Hill/Cannington-style mineral system is present at Cohen.”

The company has engaged Russell Mortimer and GEM Geophysics to run a ground-based moving loop time-domain electromagnetic survey over the Cohen area this month (July) to test for blind sulphide conductors and define priority targets for follow-up drilling.

Buxton also expects field work to begin this month, with results to be reported once processing and interpretation are complete.

The Zanthus Project sits within the Proterozoic Albany-Fraser Orogen, 35km southwest of the Zanthus siding. Field work for the electromagnetic survey is anticipated to commence this month.

Buxton previously explored Zanthus as a magnetite iron ore project between 2010 and 2012, completing 27 reverse circulation holes for 3,571m at Cohen.

Historical efforts focused on magnetite resource definition rather than testing for lead-zinc-silver targets.

Buxton Resources is focused on acquiring, exploring, and developing metalliferous ore deposits, including nickel, copper, gold, iron, and graphite, in Australia and the US.
