Basin dips toes in potential multi-element system in Sweden

Basin Energy (ASX:BSN) has received rock chip assay results from its Prästrun and Håkantorp projects in Sweden, which confirm the potential presence of strategic minerals within a multi-element mineral system. 

At Håkantorp, nine samples were collected which returned strongly anomalous total rare earth element oxides with two samples comprising uranium oxide values above 3,000 parts per million (ppm). 

Basin plans to establish surface and subsurface extensions of the rare earth and uranium rich skarn layers at Håkantorp. Further field reconnaissance including structural mapping where feasibility, and magnetic and radiometric surveys are being considered as the next step at this project. 

Meanwhile at Prästrun, assay results confirmed anomalous niobium, uranium, and tantalum on three samples with results up to 4,350ppm niobium, 1,153ppm uranium oxide, and 185ppm tantalum. 

Basin says further fieldwork is required at Prästrun to delineate the extent of the anomalous betafite bearing syenite. A systematic ground radiometric survey and further rock chip sampling will also be conducted to map out the surface extent of betafite-bearing lithologies. 

Managing Director Pete Moorhouse says the company will integrate these results into the broader exploration model, while continuing cost-effective fieldwork as the next steps to establish the full potential of the mineral-rich systems. 

“With growing global demand for critical minerals essential to clean energy technologies, including nuclear power and advanced materials, these results position our project as a potential strategic asset,” Moorhouse says. 

The company adds that while field mapping work has halted for the winter, historical core re-logging and sampling is continuing at the Virka, Bjork, and Rava projects. 

A detailed structural analysis is being conducted which will help delineate key deformation events, fault structures, and fluid pathways that may have influenced multi-phase mineralisation. 

Basin notes using modern multi-element geochemical analysis is instrumental in understanding the ore systems at play in the area. These findings will optimise future exploration strategies and drill targeting.
