The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has lost 153.3 points today (6 February), ending the trading week lower than its opening on Monday, after nearing 9,000 points earlier this week.
The bourse has decreased by 1.72% to a total of 8,735.9 points, with all sectors significantly lower today. The materials sector has dropped 2.87% for the Friday trading session, part of a greater 4.37% drop for the week.
Resources companies performing significantly lower today include Deep Yellow (ASX:DYL), which is down 11.4% to trade at $2.215 per share, and Paladin Energy (ASX:PDN), down 9.55% to trade at $11.18.
Though the ASX remains virtually unchanged for the last year to date, the platform’s index has decreased 1.5% for this week’s trading sessions.
The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.
The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation. It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
