The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) is higher 0.3% adding 25.8 points this morning (23 July) to 8,703 points at 10.20am (AEST).
The materials sector is leading gains, higher by 5% on the S&P/ASX200 as the gold price underpins investor confidence.
Gold explorers and producers are continuing to see heights on the market as the ABC Bullion reports the gold spot price at $5,246.73 per ounce this morning.
Genesis Minerals (ASX:GMD) is leading the top five with a 4.18% increase to a share price of $4.24, after yesterday’s 5.43% jump as reported by Mining.com.au.
Gold producer Regis Resources (ASX:RRL) is similarly up 4.07% to a trading price of $4.6 with no news.
Westgold Resources (ASX:WGX) is another gold miner up 3.49%, now trading at $2.96 per share.
The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.
The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.
It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
