The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has gained 10.7 points this morning (22 July) to be at 8,678.9 points at 10.40am (AEST).
Eight out of 11 sectors are trading higher, with the materials sector leading by a 1.95% increase, aligning with an appreciating gold price.
The ABC Bullion has reported the gold spot price at $5,211.03 per ounce this morning, continuing to climb and bolster gold explorers and producers.
Gold producer West African Resources (ASX:WAF) is charting at third place on the gains list, increasing 6.33% to a share price of $2.35 with no news to encourage the jump.
Similarly, Genesis Minerals (ASX:GMD) is another gold explorer that is up 5.43%, now trading at $4.08 after informing the market of its change in director’s interest.
On the decline after yesterday’s jump, battery minerals provider Liontown Resources (ASX:LTR) has dropped 2.91% to a solid trading price of $1 per share.
The S&P/ASX200 is Australia’s leading share market index and contains the top 200 ASX-listed companies in terms of market capitalisation, and accounts for about 80% of the country’s equity market.
The index is designed to measure the performance of the 200 largest index-eligible stocks listed on the ASX by float-adjusted market capitalisation.
It is recognised as the institutional investable benchmark in the country.
