Aruma Resources (ASX:AAJ) has identified the Wilan Project in the Eromanga Basin of South Australia as a prospective site for heavy mineral sands (HMS) mineralisation following completion of an independent geological review.
The project, already considered prospective for calcrete-hosted uranium at the Cypher prospect, is also notable for its iron oxide copper-gold mineralisation towards the southern end of the project.
Managing Director Grant Ferguson says the company is excited by the prospectivity of Wilan which is highlighted by the nearby recent discoveries by Altitude Minerals (ASX:ATT) at the Peake Project.
“Our independent geological review of Wilan’s HMS prospectivity has identified the potential for headlandstyle and strand-style HMS deposits within our project area, and we look forward to commencing onground fieldwork, including sampling programs upon finalisation of Aboriginal Heritage Survey approvals,” Ferguson says.
Sampling programs will prioritise the discovery of minerals including zircon, ilmenite, rutile, and leucoxene.
“The opportunity to pursue the HMS potential at the Wilan Project, in what is an emerging mineral sands province, represents an exciting extension to the project’s value proposition.”
Wilan previously intersected up to 78m of mesozoic sediments from a 2008 drilling campaign conducted by Eromanga Uranium.
Aruma intends to comprise this data into its exploration planning and targeting program to refine targets.
