Alice Queen signs for Horn Island drill rig

Alice Queen (ASX:AQX) has signed an exploration drilling contract to restart on-ground drilling operations at the Horn Island Gold Project in the Torres Strait region of Far North Queensland.

A dual-purpose, track-mounted drill rig capable of supporting exploration, extension, and infill drilling using reverse circulation (RC) and diamond core drilling methods will arrive on site.

RC drilling is expected to begin at Horn Island in mid-to-late July and will span multiple phases.

Preparations and logistics for drilling are still being finalised ahead of the campaign, which is scheduled to begin next month.

Managing Director Andrew Buxton says the drilling contract aligns with the company’s strategy to “unlock the true asset scale of Horn Island”.

“With Adrian Hell back leading the technical team and a macro environment offering very strong gold prices, we are incredibly excited to see what this multi-phase program delivers,” Buxton says.

“Shareholders can look forward to steady, robust newsflow over the coming three months as assay results begin rolling in.”

As reported by Mining.com.au, Alice Queen appointed Adrian Hell as Exploration Manager as part of its plan to restart exploration drilling at Horn Island.

Hell previously worked for Alice Queen from 2016 to 2022 before rejoining the company in this role. The company says the appointment reflects Hell’s extensive knowledge of the Horn Island gold system and its geology.

Alice Queen is a gold and copper explorer focused on developing mining opportunities in Australia and Fiji.
