Yari Resources (ASX:YAR) has identified potential for semi-soft coking, pulverised coal injection (PCI), and high-energy thermal coal products at its recently acquired Arcadia Coal Project in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
An independent coal-quality review examined historical data from 44 bore cores and 1,472 samples across the principal B, C, and D seams of the Bandanna Formation at the 282-million-tonne (Mt) project.
The review indicates average in situ ash of approximately 10% and identifies potential for Arcadia to support multiple coal products. Preliminary analysis indicates selective mining could achieve an average crucible swell number (CSN) of approximately three across 32% of the assessed low-ash deposit, highlighting semi-soft coking coal characteristics.
Historical testwork also indicates washing can reduce ash and increase CSN by approximately one to two points.
Managing Director Courtney Taylor says Arcadia is emerging as “a highly flexible coal opportunity”.
“The naturally low in-situ ash provides the potential for a relatively high-yield thermal product, while accepting a lower yield through selective mining and beneficiation may produce a smaller proportion of coal with semi-soft coking characteristics,” Taylor says.
“We are continuing to build out the Arcadia technical database, with additional historical drilling and geophysical datasets already identified for review.
“This gives us a growing body of information from which to plan the next stage of the project.”
The company acquired the Arcadia Project in August, which hosts a 282Mt coal resource comprising 164Mt indicated and 118Mt inferred resources.
Together with its existing 222.9Mt Rolleston South Coal Project, Yari now holds exposure to approximately 504.9Mt of reported coal resources in the Rolleston district with access to existing road, rail, and export infrastructure.
Yari Resources is an Australian mineral explorer focused on building a coal position in Australia’s Bowen Basin.
