Westfill wins underground mining contract

Mining contractor Westfill has secured a two-year underground mining contract with Vault Minerals (ASX:VAU).

The contract is for the Rothsay Mine, located in the Warriedar Greenstone gold belt of the Yalgoo Goldfield in the southern Murchison region, about 300km northeast of Perth in Western Australia.

The Rothsay Mine is part of the Deflector operations, which produced 30,591 ounces of gold and 188 tonnes of copper in the September quarter following record quarterly mill throughput.

Quarterly gold sales for the operation totalled 32,127 ounces of gold and 160 tonnes of copper at an all-in sustaining cost of $1,820 per ounce. Gold is currently selling for around $4,238 an ounce.

Underground mine production of 166,637 tonnes at 4.8 grams per tonne was lower quarter over quarter, predominantly driven by the transition of a new underground mining contractor at Rothsay.

Westfill will be responsible for both development and production activities at Rothsay, focusing on extracting mineralised ore from narrow sub-vertical structures.

The mining contractor started on site in mid-September.

Westfill Managing Director Ashley Morcombe says this is the company’s first full principal mining services contract with Red5 (now Vault Minerals following the merger with Silverlake Resources).

“Our Darlot development team’s hard work and consistently high performance are what put Westfill up as a key contender for the Rothsay contract,” Morcombe says.

Westfill is a principal underground mining contractor and a full-service provider for mining operations and contracts across Australia and internationally.

Established in 2020, Westfill is a part of the Westfill Group of companies, which encompasses Mine Talent, FillCon, Solved Software, and a Research and Development (R&D) division which focuses on maximising production and reducing unknown hazards in the mining industry.

Westfill says it has achieved recent R&D successes with clients including BHP (ASX:BHP) Olympic Dam.
