Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) has intersected 530m of high magnesium oxide olivine cumulate lithologies at hole MTD030, drilled to a depth of 708.6m, within the Mulga Tank Project in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia.
The company returned several intervals of visible nickel sulphide mineralisation, which confirmed not-textured sulphide and high-tenor nickel sulphide blebs from spot portable x-ray fluorescence up to 41.3% nickel.
Across the tenement, Western Mines is targeting a magnetic body spanning 1.5km in length to verify the geological interpretation of the Panhandle area within the ultramafic complex.
Managing Director Caedmon Marriott describes the presence of extensive visible sulphide mineralisation as “very exciting”, highlighting the prospectivity of the system.
“The aim of the hole was to drill a stratigraphic section through this body and confirm the geological interpretation of a komatiite channel flow system,” Marriott says.
“The observations from the hole validate this interpretation and highlight a hot, dynamic komatiite system with interbedded layers of variable lithologies and grain sizes–certainly displaying a lot more variability than the general adcumulate dunite within the main body of the complex.”
Half of drillhole costs were covered by the Western Australian Government’s Exploration Incentive Scheme (EIS).
Activity associated with the drilling program will receive up to $220,000 from the government, with an additional $220,000 for an additional drillhole, as reported by Mining.com.au.
Phase four of drilling will comprise of both reverse circulation and diamond drilling programs to further the company’s understanding of the area.
Meanwhile, the drill rig is now on the western margin of the complex, digging a diamond tail for a drillhole completed in phase one of the greater program.
