Mulga Tank Project Western Mines

Western Mines grasps Mulga Tank’s nickel sulphide mineralisation

Western Mines Group (ASX:WMG) has intersected 128m @ 0.39% nickel, including 36m @ 0.50% nickel from drilling at the Mulga Tank Project in Western Australia.

This result from hole MTRC011 is from a reverse circulation (RC) drilling campaign, combined with cumulative nickel sulphide mineralisation of 466m @ 0.32% nickel, 130 parts per million (ppm) cobalt, 49ppm copper, and 23 parts per billion (ppb) platinum and palladium.

The hole also returned assays including 80m @ 0.22% nickel, 126ppm cobalt, 73ppm copper, and 26ppb platinum and palladium from 163m; 9m @ 0.34% nickel, 148ppm cobalt, 117ppm copper, and 33ppb platinum and palladium from 276m; and 87m @ 0.32% nickel, 135ppm cobalt, 67ppm copper, and 31ppb platinum and palladium from 291m.

Managing Director Caedmon Marriott says the company’s review of sulphide occurrences within drill core highlights a “very active and prospective mineralised zone within the bottom 200m of the complex”.

“This was particularly evident in the assay results and sulphide occurrences in hole MTD028,” Marriott says.

“MTRC011 is the closest RC hole to MTD028 and this diamond tail aimed to step out from MTD028 and further test this mineralised basal zone. The assay results from MTRC011 show similarities with MTD028 and in fact highlight two mineralised layers – an active basal zone and a second upper mineralised zone – interpreted as separate sulphur saturated magma pulses.

“This observation has been seen in previous holes and both horizons are compelling targets for massive sulphide deposits.

“These independent horizons or magma flows would likely not form high grade deposits in the same locations, and this is seen in results to date with MTD028 basal zone being best mineralised whereas in other holes the upper zone shows better mineralisation. Having these two horizons essentially doubles the prospectivity of the complex.”

The Mulga Tank Project is an extensive magmatic nickel sulphide mineral system with an initial resource of more than 5.3 million tonnes of contained nickel.

Western Mines Group is a junior mineral explorer focused on a range of critical and battery minerals in Australia.
